Engagement Overview
MakeMyTrip undertook a large-scale cloud transformation to modernize its technology foundation and support growing demand across its digital travel platforms. Operating a highly distributed application landscape across more than 1,500 servers in two on-premise data centers, the organization adopted an infrastructure model designed to better accommodate fluctuating traffic volumes while maintaining stability and cost control. Seasonal travel peaks, promotional campaigns, and real-time booking activity reinforced the importance of maintaining a responsive and resilient digital platform.
To support its next phase of digital growth, MakeMyTrip transitioned from traditional on-premise infrastructure to a scalable AWS-based environment using Infrastructure as Code. This approach helped establish a more flexible, highly available cloud platform capable of supporting peak travel demand while enabling faster innovation cycles.

Business Solutions
To support these objectives, a phased AWS migration and cloud enablement program was adopted in close collaboration with MakeMyTrip’s engineering and infrastructure teams:
- Migrated a large portfolio of applications and supporting infrastructure from on-premise data centers to AWS using a rehost (lift-and-shift) strategy as the foundation for cloud adoption
- Introduced Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to standardize provisioning, reduce manual configuration, and improve repeatability across environments
- Enabled AWS Auto Scaling to adjust infrastructure capacity dynamically based on real-time traffic patterns, improving performance during peak periods while controlling costs during off-peak usage
- Applied Spot Instances for non-production and load-testing environments to optimize operational spend
- Implemented Blue-Green deployment strategies to reduce release risk and avoid customer disruption during updates
- Realigned the platform architecture with cloud-native design principles to improve long-term scalability and resilience
- Integrated automated unit, functional, and load testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve release confidence and reduce regression risks
Business impact
Business impact This phased cloud migration approach delivered measurable impact across availability, agility, and cost efficiency.
99.99% infrastructure availability achieved on AWS, strengthening platform reliability for customer-facing services
Enabled auto-scaling to handle 500K to 1M daily requests, ensuring consistent performance during peak booking periods
Improved release cadence, with full production releases deployed approximately every 1.5 weeks
Enabled near-daily provisioning of QA and staging environments using a pay-as-you-go cloud model
Reduced operational overhead and infrastructure cost through elastic capacity management, automation, and spot instance utilization
